Diversity Scholarly Article

This article is about a High school putting on a gay-themed musical. The director Peter Atlas had a lot of doubt of people comming for auditions, because he was casting for two homosexual couples, a straight couple and a 12-year-old boy. But when it came time for that Atlas had about 50 students show up to for auditions, for only a seven member cast. The play they are doing is "Falsettos." The co-writer of this play; William Finn, thinks that them doing this for an outside audience is either very brave or very stupid of this high school. But he wishes the best for them.

This is diversity of people's sexual orentation and straight people playing homosexual people for the play and they don't seem to have any problem with that. I think that the author is just trying to inform to people that this maybe be something very different for a play but its jut informing people that this is what a true actor or someone would do for their passion. This is going to affect who ever is involved in the play and maybe some famous actors. But it will deffinitely affect the audience that will be there to watch the show. This article shows diversity by let people know that just because its a gay-themed musical thats not going to hold anyone back from being a part of it though it may be odd. Its something very different from the usual high school play, its a big step forward.

I think that this is a good thing for the high school to do. It can express to people just because its gay-themed doesn't mean you dont have to do to, and you dont have to be of the sexual orientation to be a part of it. It's a great way of express that to a large audience that can spread to other people. This could possibly change high school plays because its a big step forward for a choice of a play. It think that it was a great thing for them to do and i support it,

Song Analysis

Song: American Pie
Artist: Don McLean
Genre: Rock
Release: Oct. 1971

It's referring back to the older days when things were just fun and nobody had problems with life and it was all about having fun. I think that he is trying to say that everything is changing and nobody will have fun with life anymore and that all the great american country is changing for the worst.

"Bye, bye Miss American pie"
"Now, for ten years we've been on our own"
"A generation lost in space"

Lots of things had been going on around the time.. A few years before this song was released the civil war ended. There was a bombing attack on the Capitol in Washington D.C., in the same year it was written. Some of the best songs in history were released durring this time. It was getting towards the end of the Vietnam War when the song came out. There were many things affecting the USA durring this time period.

The Nixon Doctrine just happened durring the Vietnam War, thats when Richard Nixon withdrew 150,000 soliders from the war.

Diversity

My article is about the new diversity in barbie dolls. In the past when you would walk down the barbie doll asile it only had caucasian barbies. A typical looking American girl with blonde hair and tall. Although she was way to skinny. In the past september they have come out with African American dolls. simalar to the caucasion barbies dolls except for the skin color and hair color. The African American dolls have fuller lips, a wider nose and more pronounced cheek bones. They have three main African American dolls; Grace, Kara, and Trichelle. An African American woman that lives in Denver, CO. said that when she was younger there were no dolls that looked like her and that there were only the caucasian dolls. She thinks that it's great for kids to see this now, because the race differences will make a difference in the kids future. And since we have an African American president that's even better. They believe this being the first diversity in toys for children and it is most influential for them.

This is timeliness news because it has happened in the past few weeks. It will also have an Impact because it will affect a large amount of people. Oddity can be referred back to this because it is unique and it is also Progress news because it is new improvement for diversity. There is now diversity in Barbie Dolls for kids so the can learn at a young age that skin color doesnt matter. It's going to affect children and parents of all races. There are kids all over the USA and their are tons of people of different races, so it will effect almost everyone in america that have kids. This is an important event because it shows physically that races and colors of skin are something to judge people by and that will give kids clearity in the minds that you can't judge others because of that. It shows kids that diversity is a good thing.

I think that this is a great way of showing diversity to children and that it will work out well for the future. I'm sure if they had started this back along time ago then the world now would not have a problem with diversity. Also now that we have an African American president that shows that diversity is physically changing. As long as this is continued in the future then I think diversity will just be a problem in the past.

Leadership Web Site Article (Leader 2)

This article is telling you about how you should hire costumer-oriented people at your restaurant. If you hire costumer-oriented people at your work your costumers will give you a lot more respect and return. Also your reputation for your restaurant will go up. For the best results from costumers you should have the costumer-oriented people work as a waiter/waitress and in the fast food restaurants the should be working at the drive-thru and at the counter in the front. There are always going to be problems, nobody is perfect, so the best thing to do when a costumer is dissatisfied is to turn the negative into a positive and understand that the costumer is always right. Costumers are the most important part of the food service industry. Keeping your costumers happy will bring you a successful business.

This person seems like a leader because they didn't have one negative thing to say in the article and she gave you many solutions to bad situations. She is trying to help owners and managers of a restaurants so they know what will make them most successful and thats with costumer satisfaction. Well since restaurants are everywhere around the world and pretty much everyone eats at them, it will have a big affect on the whole population, but mostly in America. Everyone is a costumer and they want to be respected and have a good time when they go out to eat, so it will have a big affect on the population. This is an important leadership article because it's helping managers and business owner's if you want the best reputation then you need to have good costumer-oriented employees and that you need to take charge and make sure that your employees are right for that position.

I support everything it says in this article. I think that it is exactly right when it comes to having costumer-oriented employees because I hate it when I go out to eat and the person that is serving me isn't very nice and doesn't seem like they care at all. Since my dad is in the food service I know that this is exactly how it should be and these are the kind of people he would want to hire. It's always about the costumers. So in the end I think that all the things said in this article is the best way to get your restaurant the best reviews and reputation.

Head Butt article

1. What are your thoughts about this case? How did the video make you feel or think? Should the athlete be charged criminally for this act? Why/Why not?

I think that it was pretty crazy what happened. I don't get why someone would do something like that. That's just something that you don't expect in football, but we don't know if something had happened between these two players before it happened. I think that him being criminally charged is fine because he attacked him physically and this is what would happened to someone if it were outside of football too.

2. When competing in contact sports, should you have the same rights and protections as you would as an ordinary citizen regarding assault or should there be an expectation of violence? Why/Why not?

Well I think they should be the same if they literally start fighting during the game because most sports involve some contact. If anyone were to start fighting during a game it would pretty much be for the same reason if it were outside the game.

3. From each stakeholder perspective I want you to answer the following:
Here are the stakeholders: both players, each players parent, police (or state), teammates of both players, the coach, the athletic director and principal. FROM EACH OF THESE PERSPECTIVES I WANT YOU TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS SO YOU SHOULD HAVE 9 different stakeholder perspectives!!

How would this make you feel?
What would you want done about this situation?
What would you do about this situation?

Player that head-butted the other player:
I don't feel good about what's happening to me. What I did was wrong but I think they are being a little to harsh, I don't think i should be charged for this. I will do anything else besides being criminally charged.

Player that was head-butted:
I don't know why this guy did this to me. I think that him being charged is what should be done because he attacked me.

Parent of the player that head-butted the other player:
I am very disappointed what happened was wrong and shouldn't have happened. I don't want my son being charged but this is what he gets for doing that.

Parent of the player that was head-butted:
I was so scared for my son. It's unbelievable that this happened, it's not something you expect to see in football. It definitely wasn't right, that boy deserves to be charged.

Police:
The criminal charge is definitely what the player deserves. He attacked the other player and it doesn't matter that it was during the football game, he still would have been charged if it were outside the game.

Teammates of the player that head-butted the other player:
We think that he shouldn't be charged, it's a little too much. He should just be suspened from a few games. He doesn't need to be charged.

Teammates of the player that was head-butted:
This was very shocking, nobody expected this to happen. The player should be charged.

Coach:
Our player's decisions was very wrong of him. He shouldn't have done that, but since he did he has to pay the consequences. It's his own fault.

The athletic director and principal:
What this student did is very embarrassing for our school. He made poor choices and it is only right for him to criminal charged. If the other family thinks this is what needs to be done then thats the right thing to do.

Weekly Article (Oddity)

http://www.dailymercury.com.au/story/2009/01/13/i-was-bashed-with-a-dildo-by-man-in-leather-mask/

January 13, 2009

A 49-year-old woman who was beaten by a sexual device by a man in a leather mask and her dog was killed by being taped to a tree by the same man. Shaun Michael Burke, 38, appeared in the Magistrate's Court yesterday charged with burglary, armed robbery and wilfully and unlawfully killing a dog at night. When the had found the dog there was blood in his mouth which they think that the dog had bite Burke because he had cuts on his arms which could have been dog bites. The woman and her son were at home and at around 3am a woman knocked at the front door to distract them so Burke could break in and rob the house. The son was chased through the house, into the back yard and he jumped over a fence to escape. The woman was hit with the sexual device which “appeared to be wrapped in such a way with duct tape to make it a better bludgeoning weapon” Sgt. Scott had said. The woman then had ran away when she could. Burke had alcohol and mental health issues and would get better treatment if granted bail. The woman who had distracted the female victim, has been granted watch-house bail to appear in court on January 29.

This would definitely be considered an Oddity news because it is a very unusual story and not something that happens normally. Usually when someone would be beaten its not with a sexual device and the criminal doesn't usually go after the house pet. This is going to affect the female victim her son for the rest of their lives. For something like that to happen to someone is awful and unforgettable. This is could a be warning story for people to be on the watch for things because anything could happen no matter how crazy it is. And anything could be used as a weapon obviously.

I think that this a something that I would expect to happen to someone. I could never picture anyone using a sexual device to beat someone with. Its just so odd, the criminals could have used a bat or pole or something, but they used something so different. I will definitely take in to consideration from now that anything can be used as a weapon. Its also just terrible to think that they killed the dog, I mean what could a dog do so bad to someone ten times its size. Burke wasn't able to kill the woman or son so he decided to kill their dog?? That's just not right. He really must have been a sick minded person. I think that this guy and the woman that helped him should be put in jail for a very long time.

3rd post

1. Reactions to the latest pages you have read. What have you found interesting so far? What do you agree/disagree with?

Well now that I have started a new and more intresting book "On the Bike with Lance Armstrong" I've read so many more interesting things then my old book. Lance was definitely independent when he was younger, he did what he wanted to and didn't let anyone drag him down. His mother supported everything he wanted to do. He started off in triathlons and the first one he had no coach or anything but what he had done in the past with running, swimming and biking. He won the race in record time. That is very interesting to me. I don't really have anything to agree or disagree with yet. Except when he was older and racing for the national team he decided not to listen to his coach durring a big race in europe (not the tour de france) and he tired himself out to fast and the coach told him to do something that wouldn't tire him out so fast in the begining. But he still came in 11th place and thats the highest any american had came in during that race.

2. What leadership traits has the subject of your book shown? Or what leadership traits has your author talked about being important? Use specific examples from the book including page number.

Lance does what he wants. He doesn't let anyone stop him, he doesn't consider second place to be good enough or a win for him. When he was younger the kids at his school always told him that he isn't good enough and he isn't good at anything. But he proved them wrong in a school race where he beat all of the athletic football and basketball guys.

3. Talk about a specific quote or passage that has stood out to you so far. What is it? Why do you feel it is important?

"One of Lance's favorite training tactics was to try to ride fast enough to time traffic lights so he wouldn't have to stop. Sometimes he'd race through the light even after it had turned yellow." Lance would also not wear a helmet when he would train. So one day he was ride his bike along with the traffic and was coming up to an intersection that when he approached it the light was already yellow. He was going to fast to stop so he just kept going and a woman in an SUV didn't see him and she saw the green light she should started going and then she had hit Lance broadside. He went flying threw the air and landed head first into the pavement. All this time he didn't have a helmet on. In the end he had a concussion and a sprained knee and he had to have stitches in the foot and head. After reading that I was very surprised that a guy who wanted to be a professional bicyclist decided not to wear a helmet and risk the possibility of getting a serious head injury. I thought he would know more about that stuff and be smart enough to wear a helmet especially when going at the speeds he went. He could have lost his whole future at the that point.

4. Give me an example of a time that you had to make an ethical decision. What was the situation? Who (no names necessary) was involved? What was the ethical dilemma? Ultimately what did you decide to do and why?

Well I guess I have to make them all the time, on Sundays I usually spend time with my family even though I have a bunch of homework to finish up. So every morning have to choose between spending time with my family and having fun or staying home and doing boring homework. Of course almost always I just say forget about my homework I'll do it later but then its way late when I get home and I'm too tired to do anything. So I usually choose the wrong decision and always regret it.
